Typhoid Mary

I listened to a Stuff You Should Know podcast about Typhoid Mary a while ago. From what I recollected, Typhoid is highly contagious, although I thought there was coughing involved. Turns out nope, just fun things like fevers and diarrhea. Maybe I was thinking of Tuberculosis. Whatever, its not like my name is Dr. Scientist and I always get my facts right.

As it is April Fool's Day, I figured this drawing would be fitting. Someone paper napkin-ed a bus door a while back, and I had the good fortune to come across it. Also, I keep discovering my keyboard switching to the French version. I know its user error, but prefer to think my computer is playing a festive practical joke on me. I much prefer that over it crashing or getting a virus. Oh, computer! You're so wacky!

I love crazy people on buses. This guy wasn't crazy, but the lady who sat next to him was. Let me add a caveat - I love crazy people on buses when they're not acting crazy directly toward me. I've had that happen, too, and its more uncomfortable and weird than entertainment. Although I suppose it provides entertainment for someone else, so it all works out.

MegaShark vs. Crocosaurus

Thanks to the great podcast, Film Sack, I now have developed a healthy appreciation of really, really crappy movies. Lately most Sunday mornings, I've been picking a random movie from Netflix, based solely on the weird title or cover art. Today's selection was "MegaShark vs. Crocosaurus." It starred Urkel. It was awesome. Inspired by Film Sack's "things I learned watching this movie" segment, I have listed the knowledge I have gained from watching this crappy, crappy movie. Enjoy.

Page o' Monsters

Here's a bunch of monsters I drew with a blue dollar store pen. Dollar store pens are the greatest - I can use lots and not feel guilty about them being expensive. Half the time two come to a package, so they're 50 cents each. I'm super cheap, so this makes me happy.

Big news of the day: I have a Twitter account...

Technically I've had it for about a week, but this is the official announcement. I used to think Twitter was dumb (and kind of still do), but its an easy way to post artwork. Especially from my tablet. It will basically be a repository of drawings that don't physically exist! Its...The Future!!!!!!!

Sun-A-Day

Its Sunday! So here's a new drawing! I've been spending a lot of time on Doodlebook, which is a fun app for the iPad (and iPhone, too, I suppose). I'm kind of a big deal over there, I suppose - my drawings have been selected as "doodle of the day" something like 11 times. My user name is "West," so check it out if you're so inclined. Unfortunately, iPad drawings aren't translating into more blog posts, so I'll have to do something about that.

Sort of exciting news...I'm working out the kinks of starting a weekly comic deal - possibly on Tumblr...? When I've figured it out, I will post an update. Stay tuned!

This is one of the last drawings I did in 2012. Its weird that it is 2013 now...seems like a made-up date. It is now....the year TWO THOUSAND AND THIRTEEN.

Everyone should be required by law to write the year that way.

I bought a brush pen.

Here's some monsters I drew using a brush pen  I bought a couple o' weeks ago. If you're looking for it in a store, look for the package with the horrifically awful manga drawing on it.

I might as well do this product endorsement right:

In honor of American Thanksgiving this Thursday, here is a turkey-themed comic I did. I got bored with it halfway through, although the last panel ended up with some possibilities for continuing the story. Maybe I'll do part 2 next year.

Spooky Post-Halloween Houses

It took me (I think) most of a month to draw these creepy, abandoned houses downtown. I drew them in 15-20 min increments before going to boxing. I attempted them once before in one shot, but it didn't go well. These houses have looked boarded up and spooky for about a decade. Its weird to walk by them after dark.

Its a sea monster-themed weekend, folks. I've gone completely crazy and posted twice in as many days! Hopefully (as stated many, many times before) regular postings will become a weekly occurrance. Hopefully.

Holy crap, I haven't posted in months...so here's a fun one. I got a recycled-paper sketchbook from my pal Sue, and have found it to be super fun to draw in. Also realized its possible to do a two-page spread; I always forget that you don't have to draw on just one side of the page.
Helpful hint: drawing on brown paper and adding white highlights makes it look like you know what you're doing.

 I drew this last weekend: it took about two hours. Malls are great when you don't have to shop in them. I like this particular mall because it has a Tim Hortons, so I can drink coffee and draw at the same time. I think if I were rich, I would do that constantly. Although maybe not in a mall. Unless the mall was in the tropics someplace.

Here's a fun bonus drawing I did of a thing drooling and screaming. I'm trying to shade more, and drawings take about 1000% longer because of it. Although all the inking practice is making my inking faster.

Blockbuster!

I drew this a while ago...last year, in fact. Still odd to think of it being a "new year." Also odd to think there's almost nowhere one can rent an actual, physical movie anymore.
